Today, Maia has presented her Bachelor research and received an award for the best poster presentation.
Congratulations, Maia!
After many years of work, of many people, our manuscript about the function of individual dopamine neurons for learning, memory and locomotion is now online as preprint!

These days, two new articles of our group were published.
A new research paper from an ongoing collaboration with Nicole Scholz from the University of Leipzig was published in Cell reports. And the editorial of a Research topic on mushroom body function that Michael co-edited was published in Frontiers in Physiology.
Sadniman presented his ongoing PhD work on the annual IGP symposium of Hokkaido University. More information can be found here.
We are very happy to welcome Michael Thane in our group. Michael is a PhD student in Computer Science from the Ostfalia University and University Graz. He joins our lab for 9 months, funded by the Goho Life Science International Fund.
Welcome to Sapporo!
Naoko published a Japanese article about the taste of amino acids in Drosophila in the scientific magazine "The Nature & Insects". You can find the article here!
Today, we published a new paper about the learning of amino acids. The paper is freely available here!
Today, Ayaka has presented her work and will graduate soon (luckily, she will stay with us for her Master). In addition, she obtained an award for the best poster presentation. Congratulations, Ayaka!
Two articles we contributed to were accepted within a few days. One of them, about the function of the gigantic inhibitory APL neuron in larval learning, is available already and featured with a beautiful cover image. The other one about a spiking-neuron model of the larval mushroom body in collaboration with the Nawrot group in Cologne, is available here!
Together with Yusuke Tomina from the Nikon Imaging Center we were successful at the 9th Hokkaido University Cross-departmental Symposium. For our collaborative project on live imaging of freely behaving larvae we obtained the gold award and a research grant.

A lovely article about our group and research has just been published in Hokkaido University's series "Spotlight on Research". If you want to get a little insight into our work, just have a look here!
With Sadniman, the first PhD student joins our lab. We are looking forward to investigate the larva's brain together. Welcome!
We are very happy that we could secure another Kakenhi Grant-in-Aid grant. The 3-year grant will fund our research on the effects of sugar on memory stability.
We are happy to have the first students joining our lab, as undergraduate students and/or research interns. Welcome!
We were very successful at the grant proposal round last spring: both Naoko and Michael secured Kakenhi Grant-in-Aid grants for research activity start-up! One funded project deals with learning about amino acids, the other one with the role of dopamine on locomotion.
After many years of work, of many people, our manuscript about our new tracking and analysis software is now online as preprint!

We are happy to have published a new preprint on bioRxiv. Congratulations Juliane!

We are happy that the Akiyama Life Science Foundation decided to fund our research on memory stability. Let's start!
Today, we started our new group at Hokkaido University. We are looking forward to continue our research here in our new office and laboratory!
